On the website “AN! Anerkennung und Anrechnung im Studium”, students and prospective students can find out about the possibility of recognition of education achievements and the crediting of skills acquired outside of university.
If you are changing your program of study or university location, you must submit a placement/credit transfer certificate for your enrollment. Your placement in a particular academic semester depends on how many course certificates relevant to the program of study in Sociology at Mainz University you have acquired.
In order to receive a classification, you must therefore present the course certificates (Scheine) you have already obtained to the academic advisory office. To do this, please fill out the form for credit notices from the university administration. Afterwards, please take these to the academic advisory office for office hours. The academic advisory office will examine your proposal and classify it directly for the Diplom, Magister, Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree programs. Find out in advance about the relevant course certificates using the examination regulations or module catalogs of the respective degree programs. Equivalent content and (examination) achievements are particularly important here. It is therefore necessary that you bring information about the content and type of your academic performance to the academic advisory office.
- Form for crediting notices
- Course certificates (e.g. certificates, transcript of records)
- Information on the content and (examination) performance of the course certificates to be recognized
(e.g. module catalog, degree plan)
After classification, it is necessary for you to have the credits on which your classification is based formally recognized. However, you must already be enrolled in order to have credits recognized. The formal act can therefore only be completed after your enrollment. However, the preparation for both steps can be carried out at the same time.
Students who have changed university or subject and students who have obtained course certificates abroad can have coursework and examinations completed elsewhere recognized in Sociology degree programs.
You will need to come to the academic advisory office with the following documents:
Transfer students:
Please print out the document of compliance and have it signed by the examination office responsible at your “home university” in the event of a change of university and subject.
Semester abroad:
For credits earned at partner universities as part of the ERASMUS program, please bring the “Learning Agreement” with you.
Print out the proposal for recognition of credits, fill it out, sign it and bring it with you to the consultation hours of the academic advisory office.
Please also bring your course certificates or your transcript of records so that the achievements to be recognized can be viewed.

The academic advisory office checks the completeness and accuracy of the documents, prepares the notification of recognition and forwards it to the examination office of FB 02. The examination office will then enter your achievements in your examination records in CampusNet (Jogustine). You will receive a written confirmation of the recognized achievements.
As this procedure involves a considerable amount of coordination, please allow at least two to three weeks for processing during the lecture period to be on the safe side. Processing may also be delayed during the semester break. Please take these deadlines into account in your planning.
